Abstract for Jaime Jurado's presentation: A Texan brewery has made investment decisions across a three-year window framed on the traditional tools of payback with a view to maximize environmental benefit. After computation of GHG footprint, the first step was to carefully identify the right engineering partner to leverage know-how. EPS identified and proposed appropriate energy  reduction measures, and   prioritized, project managed, supervised, commissioned and trained brewery staff. A cluster of fast-ROI energy reduction projects implemented over the course of a year at a budget slightly over $1 million provided confidence-building and familiarization between the engineers and the brewery and after successful implementation and handover, a new major project in design and management of a new anaerobic wastewater treatment plant and biogas generation reactor was committed for $3.5 million which goes on stream in late 2010. The biogas will be blended into purchased natural gas and fed to a biogas-compatible boiler.
